Several users are discussing the possibility of logging in to Rocketchat using Discourse credentials. DrOpossum initially asked about connecting their self-hosted Rocketchat server to Discourse via OAuth, CAS, or SAML. mpalmer clarified that Discourse isn’t a SAML or OAuth provider and only supports its own SSO protocol. DrOpossum explained that they want to use Discourse credentials (mail, username, and password) to create or log in to a Rocketchat account. Siedlerchr shared a successful implementation using a self-hosted CAS for SSO across Moodle, Discourse, and Rocket.Chat. However, SvenC56 is still unsure if SSO between Rocketchat and Discourse is possible, referencing a related thread on Meta Discourse.
Thanks for your reply. To register on rocketchat, you need a Mail, Username and Password. I would like to take these from discourse to create a account for rocketchat or log in, if the account doesn’t already exisit.
Discourse isn’t a SAML or OAuth provider, so it can’t work as the source of authentication information using those protocols. The only auth provider support Discourse has is its own SSO protocol.
