Markdown escaping

When i try to copy content from /raw/ on Meta’s Safari to Safari PWA, i don’t end up with a code block like i do when using Firefox to Firefox on Linux Mint. Furthermore, markdown escapes on the iPhone when pasted into either the rich text composer or the markdown composer.

Perhaps enabling the new composer would help?

It sounds like there may be two separate issues here: Safari/PWA clipboard handling when copying from /raw/, and Markdown escaping when pasting on iPhone.

Enabling the new composer could be useful as a test, but I’d first compare the same content between Safari, Safari PWA and Firefox, and between the rich-text and Markdown composers. With Enable markdown endpoints enabled, it would also be worth checking whether the behaviour is specific to the clipboard conversion rather than the /raw/ endpoint itself.

If anyone can reproduce this consistently, the browser/iOS versions and a minimal example of the copied/pasted content would help narrow down where the formatting is being altered.

So you’re expecting:

  1. The composer to automatically surround your text with triple backticks?
  2. The markdown should be identical to that of what you copied, but things like asterisks for bold don’t carry over?

Sounds like 2 different things.

On Android, 1 has not happened for me as far as I can remember, on my (Android) phone or on my laptop (Chrome). Can you try a different browser? Perhaps it is Firefox-specific behaviour.

For 2, I don’t face this problem. Adding ios and mobile here.

i like Firefox because i can right-click and use Select All
