Hello,

I have an vanilla Forums site and I would like to migrate to discourse.

Is it possible? Exists any plugin for it?

I only have interest in users, categories, posts and tags.

I know there are a lot of posts about importing contents from a vanilla forum, but theres a lack of comprehensive guide! The plugin is not avaiable any longer. Also not clear if it can work on hosted version of Vanilla forum, which is what we are trying to migrate from to a discourse instance that we will be hosting ourselves. Any update from folks who have done this recently would be swell.

From previous experience with hosted Vanilla, you’ll have to reach out to their support team and request a full SQL data dump. Unfortunately, they may charge you certain amount to give you your data.

An SQL dump is the easiest to work with, and we have a script to migrate the data into Discourse.

We also have a script to migrate from a CSV file but it only imports the basics and it hasn’t been tested in a while.

Fantastic. Yes, working with Vanilla on getting our data when the time comes, SQL dump is the target. Thank you so much for the quick response and solution.
