Moderation UI: Too Easy to Delete a Valid User

On multiple occasions someone from our moderation team has accidentally clicked the “Delete User” button when they intended to press the “Discard Post” button in the post review dialog. The “Delete User” and “Delete and Block User” actions take place immediately with no confirmation dialog, and they permanently removes the user from Discourse. This happens with enough frequency that we consider this a UI/UX flaw.

Would it be possible to modify the “Reject Post” drop down in one of the following ways?

  • Split the “Reject Post” drop down into a “Delete User” drop down and a dedicated button for “Discard Post” (perhaps using a green / yellow / red color scheme, or placing the “delete user” drop down on the far right side of the dialog).
  • Adding an “Are you sure?” confirmation dialog after the moderator clicks “Delete User” or “Delete and Block User.”

Seems like a good idea to have a warning on permanent actions. I see this has been brought up before: At the review post, the user gets deleted immediately - UX

Thanks for the feedback! We’re working on a refresh of the review queue that would require two clicks to do this: selecting the option from the dropdown, then clicking the submit button

do you think this could be enough of a safety… or would a warning still help?

It would certainly be an improvement! At least in my experience the problem occurs due to a missed click. Adding an extra step should solve the problem.

Personally I’d like it to work the same as deleting users from the user admin page, with a big warning popup.
