More finely grained Email Preferences recommendations in email

AI-generated summary

The discussion revolves around the idea of providing more finely grained email preferences in email summaries. pfaffman initially suggests adding an option to receive emails less frequently, as the current unsubscribe button only offers two options. They also mention that changing email frequency settings is currently buried deep in user preferences and is confusing.

pfaffman proposes including a link to the preferences page, but jomaxro agrees that a feature request for a direct link to the activity summary and usable id= tags would be more suitable.

codinghorror notes that an upcoming user preferences UX change may assist in this matter. codinghorror also suggests offering a “send me monthly summary instead of weekly” option, to which tschoepp adds a request for bi-weekly summaries.

zogstrip eventually announces that the feature has been implemented, allowing users to defer digest frequency from the unsubscribe page.

A client just said that they. . .

I don’t have an answer other than to include a link to the preferences page (and I just tracked down again that a link to Discourse Meta - The Official Support Forum for Discourse will do the Right Thing) and a note to search for “activity summary” on the page.

Does anyone have a better idea?

Or maybe this should be in Contribute > Feature. The feature request would be to include a link directly to the activity summary. Another might be to include usable id= tags on the use page so that you could link directly to the right spot on the page. (All I see is id=ember1234 tags, which don’t work across sites–are they stable on a single site?)

The upcoming user preferences UX change may assist here:

Not a bad idea to offer a “send me monthly summary instead of weekly” option here @sam, your call.

And bi-weekly summaries please

This has now been done :tada:
