but the same functionality doesn’t seem to exist for group DMs.
I understand it is possible to leave a group and so no longer receive DMs. This seems a blunt tool.
Use case: we have a group we use for private help requests that users can DM. We have a help triage group that are rostered on for a week at a time to deal with these requests and find someone who can assist. During the off-time it would be good if they could simply mute the group DMs for a time period until their next rostered on week.
It looks like this functionality exists for muting users, but not groups.
Another feature besides muting is perhaps for your individuals to consider a DND (do not disturb) schedule. I believe notifications won’t get sent during the time the user is in DND.
I haven’t tested this out explicitly but they do however get the notifications back when they get off the DND schedule.
I don’t think that would work in this case as they don’t want to mute all notifications from our discourse instance, just the ones from the support group.
I beg to differ. Under the principle of least astonishment I’d argue it is surprising that this is an exception. Discourse has very user configurable notification settings so I was expecting that groups would be selectable in the mute DMs dialog.
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes that does look perfect for our needs. Unfortunately we’re on a hosted plan that I don’t think supports this, but I will ask.
It appears I have mistaken, and that there is such a feature, but it is quite hidden.
Your individual users will have to access it via <site>/my/messages/group/<group-name>. So they can toggle the notification / as and when they would like to avoid notifications for the group. Is this what you are looking for?
