Is there a way to stop notifications for an original post or a reply if written by a certain user?
My Discourse community is by definition a “democracy” and I cannot expel anyone.

If I go to https://discourse.example.com/my/preferences/users
I can add the usernames of people that I would want to mute. That will essentially stop all notifications regarding them.

Do you happen to know if that is reset after a system period, or is that fixed?

It is a per-user preference & it is permanent. Unless I manually unmute a user i.e. removing their username from the list, I won’t receive any notifications from them.
