I had to retranslate the description of the old_post_notice_days site setting. Instead of saying that older notices will look different, it now says they will be hidden.
Is this now the default for all 3 types of post notices? I know there were discussions about hiding older new and returning user notices and I understand the confusion they can create over time, I think official notices are often still valuable even 2 weeks after the post they were added to was created. That’s why I offered separate styling for these 3 types in my theme component.
For example, I sometimes add an official notice on the first post of a topic with outdated information to direct users to a newer version of the content. Usually, these posts are already older than 14 days when I do that. When I do that now on a post created some time ago, it feels like something is broken. I select “official notice” in the menu, add the text, save it, and nothing is visible.
Thanks for pointing that out – official notice was an oversight, did not realise it uses the same component. I think those should stay indefinitely, rather than on a timer (especially since you can manually edit or delete them).
You can do that with all types of post notices. You can edit and remove new and returning user notices with the “Change official notice…” option too. Edits kind of convert them into official notices.
Yes, I know, but the others are not custom. So new-user and returning-user are automatically added and lose their value overtime and make sense to me to disappear altogether. The custom one, we don’t know the content nor is it automatically added, so I would opt to keep that, until manually removed.
