We are looking for a Discourse developer to take over and evolve an existing forum, at the heart of a cooperative community focused on ecological construction, self-construction, and participatory building sites.
Our previous developer is no longer available. The objective is not a “from scratch” redesign, but a progressive takeover, structured in MVPs, with a real challenge of interactivity and connecting users.

General Context

  • Discourse forum already in production (self-hosted).

  • Progressive migration of features from a legacy platform.

  • High user expectations: connection facilitation, messaging, opportunity tracking, offer readability.

  • Existing integrations with Airtable (CRM / opportunities logic).

Scope and Product Approach
The work is structured in successive MVPs to secure usage and advance through short iterations. These MVPs cover, in particular, connecting project leaders with professionals, tracking opportunities via private conversations, improving forum interactivity (CTA, notifications, targeting), as well as the progressive migration of accounts and certain features from the legacy platform. The challenge is as much functional as it is qualitative: flow reliability, user journey coherence, and the ability to progressively evolve the existing system without disruption.

Profile Sought

  • Concrete experience with Discourse (operation, customization, community logic).

  • Ability to think in terms of product / MVP, not just technical execution.

  • Comfortable with external integrations.

  • Autonomy, reliability, clear communication (French or English).

  • Sensitivity to community projects appreciated.

Terms

  • Freelance mission.

  • Remote work.

  • Variable workload, with a recurring base + denser phases depending on the MVPs.

  • Desired start: as soon as possible.

We at Communiteq have extensive experience (12 years and counting) with plugin and theme development and with hosting of Discourse on both our own and third party infrastructure.
