Patterns

I was really inspired by the collection of silk ties by Salvatore Ferragamo.

If you notice, architecture, traditional interior design, and traditional fashion heavily relied on patterns. I think that this is because patterns are ‘oddly satisfying,’ in that we tend to find repetition or predictable events to be calming.

It occurs to me that the base Discourse build should be more readily amenable to patterns. Personally, I have no idea how to integrate them – where to put them and so on. Ha55ii’s blog gives me a hint:

Also, creating patterns is difficult. It would be nice if you could upload various transparent emblems, establish how the emblems repeat (what angle, how far apart, etc), and then save the pattern for implementation somewhere else.

This is not merely an aesthetic preference, but a core fundamental of a community’s design. Communities should feel comfortable to step into, almost like a home.

Unlisted because A) link to product and B)… whut? C) theming background(?) is not a feature request

Johnny - this post has been unlisted and will be removed, and I just want to explain why.

Overall it’s more of a vague notion than an actionable feature request, and the technical element you propose is far out of scope for Discourse.

Experienced designers and developers can modify Discourse themes or create their own. But they need a thorough understanding of both web design and Discourse architecture to know what’s possible and how to go about it.
