The discussion revolves around setting the default timeframe for the Top page to “Today” for all users. Alshain initially asks how to achieve this, and Don suggests changing the site setting top page default timeframe to daily.
However, Alshain reports that this change did not work, and Don suggests trying safe mode to rule out theme component or plugin overrides.
JammyDodger discovers that the topics per period in top page setting might be the cause, as it seems to have a fallback to ensure a minimum number of topics are displayed by default. JammyDodger explains that lowering this number to less than the amount of topics for today allows the default to show as “daily.”
Don confirms this and JammyDodger also notes that topics per period in top summary plays a role for anonymous users. Don tests and confirms that this solution works.
I think you might be onto something. I had a run-through as well, but it only changed on my test site when I dropped the topics per period in top page down to a much lower number. There may be some fall back to ensure that minimum by default?
No worries. If you lower the topics per period in top page number to something that is less than the amount of topics for today it will allow the default to show as ‘daily’:
