And the only way for users to interact directly with each other would be through PMs, do you think profile comments are something that could be implemented? Or would it be a plugin based thing?

Personalmente, no creo que sea contraproducente. Los comentarios en el perfil sirven esencialmente para publicar actualizaciones de estado que no merecen un post propio, y la gente puede comentarlas. ¿Hay algún plugin para eso?
