The reason behind that is seo. I guess its better to have the forum in the path of the primary domain and not using it as a subdomain. Or is this today not decisive?

You can search here for subfolder and seo and will find a lot of statements like

I believe we have a follow up post in the works which will address some of the technicalities, but in short – subfolder installs have no SEO benefit over subdomain installs.

There is no SEO difference between subfolder and subdomain — except subfolder is an order of magnitude more difficult to set up and maintain.

Most everyone now agrees that there is no SEO advantage to using a subfolder.
