Regarding Zendesk Integration and Two-Way Synchronization with Legacy Discourse

Hi team,

I have recently taken over the management of a Discourse community previously handled by my predecessor.

We are looking to integrate this community with Zendesk so that new Discourse topics/posts automatically generate Zendesk tickets. Furthermore, I’ve heard that two-way synchronization is possible—where replies submitted directly from Zendesk can automatically post back as replies on the Discourse topic. (I’d like to confirm if this is actually supported.)

We are currently exploring ways to implement this workflow, but our Discourse instance is on a fairly outdated/legacy version. Regarding this, I would appreciate your guidance on the following:

  1. Version Compatibility & Upgrade Path: Is this integration (and two-way sync) supported on older Discourse versions? If not, what specific upgrade procedures or prerequisites are required?

  2. Two-Way Sync Verification: Can replies created within Zendesk really be pushed and posted directly back to Discourse topics out-of-the-box (via webhooks/triggers)?

  3. Plan & Cost Requirements: Does enabling this feature require a specific paid Discourse hosting plan (e.g., Business/Enterprise) or a particular Zendesk tier/add-on? If so, which plans are required?

(The version that I’m using for Discourse is named as: 2.7.0.beta5)

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
