Hello ![]()
I’ve been working on a custom RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) Speed Reader integration designed for Discourse platforms. It allows users to upload, manage, and read their e-books or documents (.pdf, .docx, .epub, .txt, .md) word-by-word at adjustable high speeds (100–900 WPM) with minimal eye fatigue.
Key Features & UX
-
Optimal Recognition Point (ORP) Alignment: Dynamic character highlighting (pivot) locked to the central visual crosshair.
-
Smart Typography & Controls:
-
Adjustable reading speed (WPM) & font scaling (
rem). -
Option to merge short function words for better flow and rhythm.
-
Full keyboard shortcuts support (
Space,←/→,↑/↓,+/-).
-
-
Document Library: User-level document management and reading progress tracking.
Current State & Roadmap
Currently, the plugin is experimental and works as a standalone document/e-book reader via direct file uploads.
I’m planning the next phase of development:
- Forum Topic Integration: Adding a direct “Read Topic with RSVP” action button for long forum documentations.
Since this is quite a unique feature for a discussion forum, I’d love to ask the community:
- Does a tool like this make sense for your Discourse communities? (e.g., book clubs, educational hubs, research groups, or tech/documentation sites?)
I’d really appreciate your feedback, ideas, or suggestions on the UI/UX and feature set!
