Nice to hear this!
It is possible that some of this is recent chrome improvements. We always work on performance but nothing sticks out as a super major change in the past 2-3 months. Majority of the recent work was teach Discourse to deal better with large traffic spikes.
The emoji picker is much faster now 
but besides that I can not think of any major perf changes recently that would impact standard (not super overloaded) use. Though I could be forgetting something.
