Tag management for non-staff

What would it take to allow tag management for non-moderators? Ideally, a group that would have access to this functionality. What I have in mind is something like the system Ao3 has, where they have a group of trusted individuals that manage, merge, recategorize, and rename tags? For a large community like ours, tags are proving critical to organizing content, but the management of the damn things is time-consuming and overwhelming for a single individual.

This would be a group that could just access the /tag_groups page. We’d even be able to given them fancy titles for their efforts.

This is an interesting suggestion. They get pretty good coverage by being TL3, at TL4 I wonder if we should allow even more rights like tag nuking and renames.

@neil has this request popped up before?

I think this has been mostly resolved now, given that there is an “Edit tags allowed groups” preference that we precisely used to allow TL4 to edit tags. However, some issues seem to remain:

@sam Has there been any decision taken on adding group permissions to manage (create/edit/add tage to) tag groups ?

I was about to suggest this improvement, as our users needed Discourse for its tagging system, and use the “Tags” page as a glossary, but the charge of organizing the constantly newly added tags in tag groups now only falls down to the admin (so, not sustainable).

It would be ideal to be able to give permission to users group to manage the tag groups.
