The discussion revolves around the “Tester” badge, which is supposed to be awarded after reporting 10 bugs liked by the Discourse team. However, NateDhaliwal received the badge after reporting their first bug, not their tenth. sam suggests that this issue might be due to the badge being misconfigured and backfilled. Moin points out that the Tester and Senior Tester badges have always used the date of the first report, which is why they received both badges on the same day. tobiaseigen thinks that this issue is not significant and might cause more problems if changed, citing a previous discussion from 2023. The badge’s behavior is seen as a quirk that most people will not notice or care about.
The other report is from 2023 so well before the recent backfill. As far as I remember, the tester and senior tester badges have always used the date of the first report rather than the most recent one (10th or 25th).
That’s why it looks like I got both badges on the same day.
I’m not sure this is a big enough problem to worry about, and as James wrote back in 2023 fiddling with it may cause more issues when run against historical data.
This is a quirk in the query we use here on meta but not something most people will notice or care about. It came up now for you @NateDhaliwal because of the backfilling.
Like Moin, my tester and senior tester badges show the same date. In my case it’s Aug 9, 2014. Weirdly, the earliest bug reporter badge I got is a year after that, Feb 18, 2015. Maybe that first bug topic I reported got deleted.
