Timeline Mute Button Theme Component

awesomerobot introduced a simple theme component that adds a mute toggle button under the topic timeline, allowing users to switch between mute and normal tracking statuses. The component is available on Github.

The component can be customized to hide the original tracking button with CSS. mcwumbly found this component useful for a related project.

Pad_Pors suggested that a toggle between follow and unfollow might be more intuitive. They also asked if it’s possible to choose between the two tracking statuses and if the functionality can be applied to category and tag pages.

nexo reported a bug where the feature is visible to logged-out users and provided a temporary CSS fix. The issue was later fixed by awesomerobot.

ondrej implemented the component but encountered a theme compatibility issue, which they plan to resolve independently.

This is a simple theme component that adds an explicit mute toggle under the topic timeline. The button toggles between mute and normal tracking statuses.

That’s all it does! If you don’t care about the other tracking types you can hide that now-redundant button with some CSS

.timeline-container
.timeline-footer-controls
button.dropdown-select-box-header {
    display: none;
}

Thanks for this! I was hoping to do something like this a while back: How best to develop this frontend customization / plugin?

Looks like this may be a good jumping off point for something like that.

thanks for this, I guess toggles between follow and unfollow (normal) makes more sense. as someone who wants to mute a topic, may never enters it! (since the topic is not interesting enough for him).

can one choose among the two tracking statuses?

also can such functionality work for category and tag pages?

Bug: This feature should be hidden from logged-out users:

Until then, I’ll use CSS to hide.

Hello!,
Just added it. Great we love it - just this thing… It does not like our theme
