To what extent is generative AI used to create Discourse?

(Apologies if this has been asked before; I searched but couldn’t find it already.)

To what extent are generative AI tools (Copilot, Claude, etc) used to create Discourse? Has it changed over time?

You could never tell for sure for third party contributors, so just the answer for the core team would be enough.

At the moment much of the core team uses some variety of AI (lots of varying configurations including Claude, Gemini, Copilot, ChatGPT, etc… coming in the form of the standard chatbots, CLI tools, IDEs like Cursor). Things change very quickly and there’s a lot of experimentation. We certainly use it more than we did a year ago.

We also have AI specific tools in use like our MCP and Discourse Vibe.

Everything is still human-approved before getting merged.
