Looking for a full-time developer for the forum

Hiring Rails Full-Stack Developer

Responsibilities

  • Develop Discourse plugins (Ruby on Rails + Ember.js)
  • Maintain existing plugin code and troubleshoot production issues
  • Only one position available; candidates with strong learning abilities may be promoted to Technical Director (salary increase + equity)

Requirements

Must-Haves

  • 2+ years of Rails development experience, familiar with ActiveRecord and Sidekiq (if Rails experience is limited, strong learning ability is acceptable)
  • Experience with frontend frameworks (Vue/React/Ember preferred)
  • Ability to read English technical documentation
  • Proficient in using AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) to assist development

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience developing Discourse or other forum systems
  • PostgreSQL performance optimization experience
  • Contributions to open-source projects

Compensation and Benefits

  • Monthly salary: 18K–20K RMB, 13 months per year
  • Social insurance and housing fund (Five Insurances and One Fund)
  • Working hours: 9:00–11:30, 13:30–17:30; no overtime (AI will handle the workload in the future)

Notes

  • There have been no Ruby job postings in Nanjing for several years, so this is posted in advance. Hiring is expected to start in May.
  • Later interviews will include 10–20 multiple-choice questions generated by AI to assess competency (since I don’t know coding myself and won’t assign algorithm problems).
  • Please do not apply if this does not suit you.

Sorry, but why is this a must have requirement? You are going to rule out a lot of potential people who are like me and refuse to use these “development” tools for whatever reason. Seems backwards to me.
