Is there a way to turn off “auto grid images”? re: https://github.com/discourse/discourse/commit/7a936da05c0a73f96d0a69391310662be5bbd1d9

Hey @Richie , thanks for checking in. We have work planned to let admins turn this feature off in their communities, but it has not started yet. I’m not sure when this will be picked up; we have other in progress work to complete before we can turn to this. We’ll be sure to check in here though once …

Yeah, these kind of things I’m talking about here: [image] Don: people can easily break the images grid view. I understand why this is important, but we just don’t have enough time to fix these broken grid galleries after non-tech users all the time.

I have some feedback to share here too. I spent the day yesterday in the garden pruning my plants, and took some before/after photos on my phone and uploaded them to topics on my personal forum. I then went back to the computer periodically to clean up the posts and add more notes. Sometimes I also…

[image] Tobias Eigen: When enabled every image is in a grid, and the grid markdown is not needed at all nor the UI for adding it. So it’d be handled in the UI on the fly when viewing a post, rather than some [grid] tags being baked in to the post content?

Yeah, that was my thought. Something like the discotoc theme component. [Screenshot 2024-11-24 at 11.59.43 AM]

[image] Richie Rich: You get these appearing randomly We also get endless variants of broken [grid] code-tags that we need to clean up all the time too, it’s not just whole grid tags on their own, it’s often partial bits of [grid] tags like this: [Screenshot 2024-11-24 at 20.19.04] People…

Here are some example as well uploading didn’t success and broken all of it. I don’t know :speech_balloon: emoji how goes there  [Screenshot 2024-11-25 at 11.39.25] [Screenshot 2024-11-25 at 11.38.47] [Screenshot 2024-11-25 at 11.37.53]

Any update regarding this? I’m really hoping for a setting to disable it . Or at least to be able to change the minimum-image-number.

No updates yet, but we are actively discussing it! One question on our minds is whether this is more appropriate as a user setting or a site setting. In other words, should admins control whether / when images are auto-gridded, or should that be something individual members can determine for themsel…

Given that the primary issue is that users fail to understand what the grid tag is, how it works or what it is doing, it seems like the solution wouldn’t be to put the choice on them to have it on/off. If it is a user-based choice I think it needs to be off by default.

Mon vote est qu’il pourrait s’agir d’un paramètre de site caché avec une valeur par défaut de vrai. Ainsi, rien ne change, nous avons juste la possibilité de désactiver.
