How can I make the FAQ/Guidelines visible by default in French on our Discourse forum?
Thank you.
Is the default_locale site setting of your forum French?
Then you can update the boilerplate guidelines with the French translation of it at site-text in your admin area. It’s a little hidden: on the right there is a replace text button where you can choose which category names and which topics should be updated to the default for the current default_locale.
Of course this requires that someone translated the text, but this shouldn’t be a problem for French.
Thanks. Actually, I have this message in a private Staff category. I imagine that’s not a good idea, and it should be visible to everyone? What should I do if I want to change it?
I don’t think the topic itself needs to be in a category available to everyone. Users can find the guidelines at /guidelines, which is, for example, linked in the sidebar.
The topic is only the place where the text is stored so staff can edit it. Your users don’t need to edit it.
Oh ! Several years I am using Discourse, did’nt know about this button ![]()
