Updates no longer in the Admin UI?

From what I’ve read, I guess this feature was removed? Now there’s no click-to-update option through the Admin UI?

Not sure how far behind I am, as to how recent that is, or if it can somehow be re-enabled. It was one of my favorite things about Discourse from an admin point of view. The ability to update it at anytime from anywhere with just the phone app, outside of a few times a year when I waited too long and had to go in and rebuild the app from the command line, was very convenient. The rebuild to fix almost any issue, is my other favorite thing about the platform, from an admin point of view.

Can it be re-enabled somehow?

Still here on my instance. What do you see if you go to /admin/update/?

OK. I was used to seeing it on the right, not in the menu.

But it’s also not in my menu on the left.

/admin/update gives me…

Not sure what I did to end up here. I’ll run the rebuild and see if that solves it.

Do you still have GitHub - discourse/docker_manager: Plugin for use with discourse docker image in your app.yml file?

Thanks, but it’s in there.

I’m wondering if I’m having a spacing issue or something with some lines of the commands. Is that a thing, where the number of spaces affects it reading it correctly?

The spacing looks OK. I’ll check my self-hosted site to see if a recent change caused a regression.

I went into the post referenced…

…and copied and pasted it in.

I think the spacing was the issue with the after_assets_precompile area before also.

Rebuilding now. We’ll see.

I still see the sidebar button after a rebuild:

Also… are you on the stable track by any chance?

It’s showing up now after the re-entering of those lines and rebuilding the app. I guess they were malformed somehow before.

Thank you for the help!

Does that not update the docker version?

I noticed this today when running a rake…

WARNING: Docker version 24.0.2 depreciated, recommend upgrade to 24.0.7 or newer

But the /admin/update area is showing…

Up to date or needs upgrade?

Docker and docker manager are two different things, and You need to do periodic maintenance on the host server too.

On Ubuntu/Debian based systems it is as simple as

apt update
apt full-upgrade

And optionally a reboot to ensure that new kernel updates are applied.
