We’ve landed a few improvements to Discourse Events recently, covering a few different aspects of the events lifecycle. Let’s dig in!
Livestream recordings and chat transcripts
After a livestream event ends, organizers can now click Add recording link to attach a recording link directly from the event topic.
The event’s live chat is also automatically saved and posted to the topic as a transcript when the livestream ends. For one-off events, the transcript is appended to the event post itself; for recurring events, it’s posted as a dated reply for each occurrence.
The recording embeds on the event card (as a rich onebox if the URL supports it, or as a Watch recording button otherwise).
Event-specific filters
The /filter endpoint now understands event state, so you can build topic lists scoped to events without a Data Explorer query. Eight new filter types are available, and they show up as hints in the filter bar:
- By state:
event:upcoming, event:ongoing, event:past, event:any, or their negations (e.g.-event:past) - By date range:
event-after:YYYY-MM-DD,event-before:YYYY-MM-DD - By attendance:
event-attending:me,event-attending:<username> - By sort:
order:event-start(latest first),order:event-start-asc(soonest first)
These work alongside existing category, tag, and status filters, so you can do things like category:events event:upcoming order:event-start-asc to get a sorted list of upcoming events in a specific category.
Improved event oneboxes when linking across sites and in chat
When you paste a link to an event topic on another Discourse site, the onebox now shows event-specific details: title, date, timezone, and cover image, instead of just a standard topic preview. This works in topics and chat.
So now it’s super easy to share upcoming Meta community events with all your friends! ![]()
