I think it does affect how long it’s possible to delete a topic (the first post). That becomes impossible after someone replies or after the edit time limit passes. But if I remember correctly, the edit time limit does not influence the deletion of replies.

According to the Trust Level Permissions Reference there is only a limit per minute and per day, no time based limit

Hmm… perhaps it should? Since deleting the post essentially edits the post …
