A user, adflkjlvm, reported that the users list disappeared from the admin panel after upgrading Discourse to commit a22deb520b from 4cb4a5912d. While users could still be viewed through the groups menu, the direct /admin/users/list/active page was broken. JammyDodger was unable to reproduce the issue after updating to commit 8f89e287d3. adflkjlvm confirmed safe mode did not resolve the problem and attempted a rebuild. Ultimately, updating to commit 9ebce86fd fixed the issue adflkjlvm. The user noted this was the second recent upgrade to cause problems adflkjlvm. JammyDodger explained the stable release schedule (around January and July) and noted the tests-passed branch is generally stable, expressing hope this wouldn’t become a recurring problem. adflkjlvm expressed gratitude for the software and its self-hosting availability. Moin asked about browser console and log errors, but no response was provided.
Updating to 9ebce86fd fixed the issue. Thanks everyone for their help.
This is the second recent upgrade that has resulted in issues, and it appears that it is not easy to get on a more stable release without timing it properly with the other branches.
The major releases (aka stable) are usually slotted in for around the end of January and the end of July each year. So if you do want to switch tracks your next opportunity would be in a couple of months.
Though generally the default tests-passed is reasonably stable and any significant issues that crop up are normally fixed pretty rapidly. It is unfortunate that you’ve been bit twice in a few weeks, but hopefully this isn’t something that becomes a pattern for you.
