There is a question of what it means for some of the types of watched words to apply to an edit. But it’s also clear that this limitation greatly reduces the value of watched words.
I would expect that it would be helpful to propose a specification for what exactly ought to happen for each type in case of edit; it would make the feature request more actionable. I haven’t done that work, though I’ve spent occasional time thinking about specific cases.
