Weird invite button behavior

On someone elses profile, you either get this button (when there are no invites)

or this button (if there are invites)

Both buttons will create an invite, for your own user.

Expected: you only see the invite creation buttons on your own profile

FWIW, I think there is value in being able to create an invitation on someone’s behalf. I do this for our Customer Success reps who aren’t Discourse-savvy but want to invite their customers to the community.

yes but the functionality doesn’t work that way. it sends the invite from the sender’s account, not the user’s profile. it is no different than sending an invite from your own profile.

when the invitee gets the invite, it’s from the person who pushed the button on the profile, not the profile user. the profile user does not even know about the invite, so it’s not really on their behalf (they don’t get notifications or anything).

it does feel odd to me from a UX perspective to have an invite button on other members profiles that doesn’t actually have anything to do with those users.

Completely agree! This has always irked me, but never quite to the threshold of posting about it - so thank you @RGJ for articulating it.
