What are some simple ways to improve digest emails

An option which ensures that every newly updated topic is listed, less Digest more Total recap.
Some way to ensure that I didn’t miss a thing because I was on Digest, just didn’t get every email.

Content of Digests

We are reliant on the email digests to bring people back to our small forum. Digests however are going out without any mention of new posts in existing topics (which may only be one post). It is clear that people are missing out on some of what is happening.
