This. My community is going to be migrating from Facebook. It’s a support community, so we expect all our members to be creating “topics” regularly. I’m actually wondering if there isn’t a way to work around having to provide a title for a topic – some kind of “post lite” functionality, to lower the barrier to entry for posting. I know that in some similar communities (with other software) they have one topic per member and everything goes in one gigantic topic. I don’t think this is a good solution. Regular, shorter topics/discussions seem more appropriate.
The alternative is to find a way to give guidelines on how to write your topic title so that it removes most of the friction, and maybe have a bunch of “title specialists” that wander around fixing titles.
