In many ways, Google is a black box and it behaves in mysterious ways. That said, there is some general guidance that I think is important to follow:

Thank you for the detailed reply Sam. I totally understand the centralization piece, but the fact is that there is a lot of good historic information there which, until its moved, is very useful. The mailing list definitely has less traffic but does still see usage. Slack is good for interaction, but doesn’t SEO answers.
