Invite Only with OpenID only does not work

AI-generated summary

In a bug report titled ‘Invite Only with OpenID only does not work’, DevTeVe describes an issue during a forum test-pilot where enabling ‘invite-only’ mode alongside OpenID Connect (OIDC) login causes the authentication flow to fail — users are redirected back from the OIDC provider and immediately told they need an invite, with no path forward. The user notes that disabling ‘invite-only’ and instead using ‘invite code’ partially works: the first registration attempt fails with an ‘email already used’ error, but re-entering the invite link bypasses the code requirement and completes registration. Screenshots and a video demonstrate the behavior. zogstrip checks in later to ask if the issue persists, to which DevTeVe replies they’ll double-check soon, apologizing for the delay. zogstrip humorously points out that DevTeVe had waited nearly four months for a reply — implying patience runs both ways. The issue remains unresolved as of the latest post, and the user is open to providing further details.

Currently we are doing a test-pilot of our forum and we wanted to limit the amount of people that can join.

We’ve configured openid and wanted to enable All new users must be explicitly invited by trusted users or staff. Public registration is disabled.

but doing so makes the login flow fail, when you are returned back from the OIDC provider it just tells you that you need an invite and that’s it.

On the video I set the forum to invite only and the forum to require everybody to login. I’ve also disabled local logins.

The only way to circumvent this is if you disable “invite only” and instead use “invite code”, if you do this, the first attempt to register will fail with an error about email being used, but if you re-enter the link with the invite, it will no longer ask you for the invite code and will let you finish the registration

let me know how can I provide more details  im fairly new with discourse

Are you still having issues?
