Users are requesting a feature to collapse the category calendar to save vertical space and improve UX. Lou notes that the calendar takes up too much room, pushing topics down the page, and suggests allowing it to be collapsed by default, potentially remembering user preferences per category. nathank agrees, emphasizing the need for easy toggling with site or user-level defaults, and references a related request for hiding the calendar to view only event topics. satonotdead supports this, citing both visual clutter and general UX issues. blalor also expresses interest, mentioning disappointment that the [calendar] tag doesn’t support standalone category views, and suggests even a simple disclosure triangle would be helpful.
I have put the calendar at the top of some categories via Events calendar categories, but users have complained it takes too much vertical real estate.
I am thinking it would be good to allow these to optionally be collapsed as a default.
I’m not sure the best way to allow the default collapsing option to be by category though, given the current configuration implementation, although maybe it’s always one way (collapsed or not), and then the plugin could remember the user’s choice for each category.
I’ve encountered the same issue. It is quite large, and the topics are quite a way down the page as a result. It would be great to have it easy to toggle off/on and have some defaults for it (user/site).
This is an allied request (in the context of having topics on the Upcoming Events page):
This is something I’d like to see, as well. I got excited when I saw reference to the [calendar][/calendar] tag for a topic, and thought having a standalone topic with a post showing all events for a category would be great, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
