The discussion highlights a UX bug where right-clicking the composer reveals context menu options for images located behind it in the underlying post. seanblue reports that this occurs in Google Chrome, allowing users to interact with hidden images via the composer overlay. chapoi initially suggests the issue is limited to the composer container rather than the textarea and labels it as #wontfix, adding a pr-welcome tag for potential contributors.
However, seanblue contradicts this, demonstrating that the behavior persists even when right-clicking the textarea or selecting text. chapoi then provides a video showing their different reproduction results. seanblue hypothesizes that the discrepancy stems from differences between the rich text editor and the markdown editor. Finally, kainordherd attributes the root cause to Chromium’s rendering behavior, which treats elements with rounded corners as “transparent,” allowing clicks to pass through to elements below. The redesigned composer’s textarea, lacking corners, functions correctly, whereas other parts of the composer exhibit this anomaly.
So this is an interesting one. If you are looking at a post with an image you can right click the imagine when it’s covered by the composer and still open it that way.
Open the composer and scroll so that the image is behind the composer
Right click the composer where the image would be and notice that you have options like “open image in new tab”, which work as if you had right clicked the image directly
Quirky. Additional specification: it only does this when clicking through the composer container, not the textarea.
I’ve added a pr-welcome in case someone wants to dig into this, but I’m otherwise not convinced this is causing real issues with using the forum, so noting as #wontfix from our side.
What do you mean by this? I can right click anywhere in the composer, including the textarea, and this will happen. I can even highlight the text to right click for something like “Copy” and the options like “Open image in a new tab” are still there.
Seems like Chromium have a weird behavior that treats any elements with a corner as “transparent”. And the redesigned composer’s textarea don’t have any corners so it can function properly.
