There are User Actors in Discourse. You just can’t follow them (currently). As this misconception has come up three times today already, I’m thinking of surfacing this somewhere in the UI. In answer to the follow up question “Why can’t you follow user actors if they exist?”, the prior question of “Why would you want to follow user actors in Discourse?” needs to be answered first (i.e. what’s a real use case).
(I am aware that Discourse Follow exists - I built it - however there’s a difference between following a user within an instance for notification/discovery purposes and following a User Actor in the fediverse)
