It really isn’t clear that the unread message is in an admins inbox that I have to click on to see the unread message that My Messages wants me to see.
It took me a minute of looking around the interface looking for the next blue dot to find my unread message.

Ik heb dit naar de ux-categorie verplaatst, aangezien je niet echt om ondersteuning vraagt (en er naar mijn weten niets aan gedaan kan worden, dit is gewoon hoe het is).
Het inbox-ontwerp (en het gebrek daaraan) is iets waar we ons zeker van bewust zijn en dat we op een gegeven moment willen aanpakken. Feedback zoals deze is erg nuttig voor ons en helpt ons om dingen op de agenda te zetten, dus bedankt.

I agree! This trips me up regularly here on meta, where we have many group inboxes that might have new messages. Maybe that group inbox pulldown can get highlighted treatment when there are other inboxes with new messages? 
Or when you click on My messages in the sidebar it takes you to one of the inboxes directly with new messages?
I think having a dot next to the dropdown would be suitable.
