Allow Users to only edit their own posts in a specific category

Hello all! My apologies if this is posted in the wrong place. I’m trying to configure specific edit permissions and I’m not having any luck.

As a general rule, we don’t allow any of our “regular” users to edit posts. We do allow a specific group I have set up to edit posts, but the majority of our users are in the “regular” group that does not allow edits. However, I have one category that I would like to make an exception. I would like the original poster of a topic to be able to edit their own topic (and replies), but not anyone else’s. I have it set up that only the original poster can reply to a topic, but I can’t figure out the edit permissions.

I don’t use trust levels. I moderate new users and everyone gets put into specific groups that I have manually created. I then restrict which categories are visible and what not based on those groups.

Is this possible? Thank you all in advance!

It’s not really possible without a custom plugin. User privileges to edit posts (Edit post allowed groups ) are by group, not category.

You could use CSS to hide the edit button in all but the category you want to allow, but clever people that can get by CSS will still be able to edit all of their posts in all categories.

I was afraid that might be the case. Bummer. I may have to figure out another way to set this up. Thank you!

There is a category setting “allow unlimited owner edits on first post”. But that won’t work for replies.

Thank you for your response. I DO have that option checked, but it does not appear to be working. Are there other settings I need to have set for this to work properly?
