Just moved to Discourse and I want to use fixed categories ordering for now to not make our new forum look too unusual for users. Reordering is pain! You should add “drag&drop to reorder” feature, sinse Discourse positions itself as easy to use furum.
Also, why this dropdown is not in alphabetical or custom order? It should be alphabetical, I think.
Dozens of existing topics on this, but right now we have a mixture of frequency ordering (drop-downs) and hard-coded number ordering, on the /category landing page.
I think as the # of topics gets larger it should always be a search box, anyway – nobody’s going to scroll through 50+ categories. You probably shouldn’t even have 50 categories, if you have a site you want people to actually visit and understand…
