As DO doesn’t offer an easy size-down option, do this:

  1. Take backup on current machine
  2. Start smaller droplet
  3. Set up Discourse on smaller droplet
  4. Restore the Discourse backup on the smaller machine
  5. Switch over DNS to the smaller droplet
  6. Wait for DNS propagation
  7. Shut down the original

You also have to do this if you want more disk space.
