There is a reported bug in the Chat composer window on iOS where users are unable to select and adjust text by moving the two dots on either end of the text, only allowing selection of one word at a time. Earnie_Baird initially reported the issue on iOS 17.5.1 across various browsers. However, Jagster claimed it worked as expected on their iPhone 15 plus. Earnie_Baird disputed this, stating it did not work on their iPhone 15 Plus or another user’s iPhone 13 Pro. The issue makes writing and editing long messages difficult, and Earnie_Baird requested acknowledgement and investigation from the Discourse team. joffreyjaffeux acknowledged that it can happen in certain situations but did not provide an estimated time for a fix. sam suggested that the issue should be fixed, citing a paid Discourse Chat bug fixes and enhancements post.
When using Chat on iOS there is an issue where if you are typing a long message and want to select text to cut, copy or replace it does not let you adjust the selection of words by moving the two dots on either end of the text. You can only select one word at a time.
Have observed this on iOS 17.5.1 and in every browser I’ve tried (Safari, Chrome and Firefox).
iPhone 15 plus and latest iOS — it worked for me as it should 
you can move the dots around to select more words? I’m on a 15 Plus and it does not work.
Just had another person try it out on an iPhone 13 Pro and latest iOS and it doesnt work for them either.
Yeah, anywhere and as much I want. Same thing with old iPad 5th gen — well it is not on iOS of course.
We’ve had more users complain about being unable to highlight / cut + paste text in the composer window on mobile which makes writing / editing long messages difficult
Can someone on the discourse team please at least check this out and acknowledge that there is a bug / issue with this?
I’m guessing chat must not be heavily used as this seems like a pretty basic usability issue for mobile users. Thank you.
Yes it can happen in certain situations, just like it can happen at other places out of chat. No eta of when we will have the resources to try to improve this/workaround ios bugs.
