Create chat channels connected to a group

Create chat channels connected to a group:
@alefattorini is looking to create a chat channel connected to a group, not a category, to facilitate communication between different groups. However, as mentioned by @joffreyjaffeux, Discourse currently only supports categories.

@alefattorini and other users, including @sdpiowa and @Firepup650, find this feature useful and express interest in its implementation.

Later, @alefattorini discovers that the feature has been included in a recent update, as announced by @JammyDodger: Start a group chat with a Discourse group.

Hi guys,
how can I create a chat channel connected to a group? And not to a category.
I have different groups ambassadors, hero, beginners, etc and I’d like to permit to chat between them
It looks like I need to choose a category. Why? Is there another way?

Hi @alefattorini, we only support categories for now. This is something which could maybe evolve in the future, but it’s not on the roadmap ATM.

Ok, thank you  it would be really useful. I move it to the Contribute > Feature category

This would be beneficial in our use case, as well…as we’d like to have special interest groups with the ability to chat even if most of their posts on the Forums itself is accessible to the rest of the larger community.

This would be nice as well, a good chunk of our groups don’t need their whole own chat just to have a chat channel.
