Feature request: Add the ability to group multiple channels into “categories” to organize channels as the number of channels grows. This could be configured server side or user side (like how Mattermost stores category mappings associated with each client client side). Maybe some system based on tags? I’m not sure the most discourse native method to implements, but some mechanism for channel organization would be great!
I love chat, and want to make sure our organization can scale up as we use this! Thank you
One idea that I’m interested in, that would cover this and open up more flexibility… is to allow sidebar sections to contain any content. So you can have a custom section with a couple channels, some categories, tags, etc.
You can do this now by manually adding links to categories/chat channels/tags/etc in custom sections… but it would be nice if we could more directly use the reference and get the new content indicators, correct icons, etc.
This would be amazing for groups - We have a lot of segmented category spaces for various groups and it’d be cool to organize sections for each group with relevant chat channels and categories. If sections could be restricted by group that’d be the dream!
