Discourse Crypto Ticker shows live cryptocurrency prices (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, memecoins.) as a ticker or cards. Choose from 6 positions and 4 styles, and pick the coins from a built-in admin page.

The repository moved from bitforo/discourse-crypto-ticker to LoadFoundryHQ/discourse-crypto-ticker. The old URL redirects, so existing installs keep working, and your settings (crypto_ticker_*) are preserved.

Install Guide


Features

  • Live prices + 24h change for the coins you choose (public CoinGecko API, no API key needed).
  • 6 positions - below the site header (default), above/below the topic list, top/end of a topic, or the left sidebar.
  • 4 styles - Classic and Dark (scrolling strip, pauses on hover), Minimal (flat, wraps) and Cards (static grid).
  • Coin picker - an admin page with the top 20 coins and a search over Binance-listed coins.

Configuration

Add the plugin to your containers/app.yml and rebuild:

cd /var/discourse
./launcher rebuild app

Then open Admin ? Plugins ? Load Foundry Crypto Ticker (or /admin/plugins/crypto-ticker) ? Coins to pick which coins to show (empty = the top 10 by market cap).

Settings

Name Description
crypto_ticker_enabled Enable/disable the ticker.
crypto_ticker_position Where the ticker is rendered (6 positions).
crypto_ticker_style Visual style: classic, dark, minimal, cards.
crypto_ticker_top_count How many top coins to show when no coins are selected.
crypto_ticker_show_change Show the 24h percentage change.

Could this be expanded to include normal stocks and indexes? I can see potential use cases for this should that be added.

Yes, of course it’s possible; I’ll run some tests and add that feature very soon :slight_smile:

Although we haven’t discussed stocks and indices on Bitforo yet, adding that function is definitely a great idea, as it allows forum owners to decide which ones to display :wink:

Update — v1.7.4

Load Foundry Crypto Ticker got a big update:

  • Stocks & indexes — show stock and index prices (Yahoo Finance) next to crypto, picked from the admin.
  • New admin UI with independent tabs: Settings · Coins · Stocks · Indexes.
  • Multilingual UI (English / Español / Português) with a language selector in the plugin settings.
  • Coins: quick-select Top 10 / Top 20; the top 10 are preselected by default (you can deselect any).
  • “Show change” and “stocks & indexes” are enabled by default.
