We leverage Discourse for doing support of our open source genealogy software. A large percentage of those users are older and not technically adept as the newer generations who were indoctrinated with microcomputers during primary schooling.
Discourse offers a “Welcome back!” to users who haven’t logged in for a while. But it is just as cluttered as what a regular visitor has grown accustomed to navigating. So users (who are coming in already being frustrated by not having been able to figure something out in a software package) are thrust into another complex and unfamiliar interface.
Perhaps there is a way to offer a less noisy custom screen to dormant accounts, like the new user is shown a streamlined “welcome screen” or “onboarding experience”?
