Install this theme component
Bring a fresh icon system to your Discourse forum by swapping out the default Font Awesome icons with Lucide — a modern, open-source set of consistent, lightweight stroke icons.
Why Lucide?
Discourse ships with Font Awesome, which is a solid general-purpose icon library. However, the free tier of Font Awesome has a limited selection of stroke-style icons, not enough to build a coherent stroke icon system. Lucide fills that gap: it’s a community-maintained fork of Feather Icons with a growing library of clean SVG icons that work beautifully at all sizes.
This component is used here on meta.discourse.org as part of the Meta Branded theme.

The component adds a limited set that aims to map all default Font Awesome icons.
Lucide offers many more icons. To include additional ones in your theme, see Replace Discourse’s default SVG icons with custom icons in a theme.
Notes & Known Limitations
- Not all Font Awesome icons have a direct Lucide equivalent. In some cases, the component intentionally keeps the Font Awesome version (e.g. filled variants of the square and circle icons).
- The icon mapping is actively being improved. Feedback on specific icons is welcome!
