Discourse Video Upload Plugin with YouTube and Vimeo

Handling uploaded videos

We have a client who would like to upload video - but this could be any video and would need transcoding. Discourse is clearly not a video hosting platform - so we were thinking about trying to involved a 3rd party transcoder, or possibly some sort of direct upload to Vimeo or similar after the user uploads the file. Does this sound like a reasonable approach and any ideas on how this might be achieved? I assume that a customised Onebox view may help somewhere?

I know Discourse is for conversations, not for multimedia. In the industry that our forum is aimed at, a video is sometimes very useful to explain a case. What is a good way to deal with this? People, and therefore forum participants, are naturally lazy. Do you allow video uploads on your Discourse forums?

Hey DiscoFam! I have a best practices type question… I’m not sure whether I want to allow and encourage video uploads on my forums. While there may be some really good vid content that’s added, there will likely be a lot that is not really timeless.
