Discussion about "black"-lists etc

As I think there was no discussion in this community about getting rid of words like “blacklists” or “master <-> slave” mode in discourse software projects, I want to start it now.

My proposal: get rid of these words in discourse and use something like “blocklist” instead of black/white lists.

It’s not something which needs to be changed tomorrow but after the black lives matter movement these words are “No-go” and should be changed - and I fully support this!

We have already slotted the rename we should be done in 4-8 weeks

Yes, agreed, this is already in progress. Will take time as we have to rename a few fields in the site settings too. The new terms will be

blocklist
allowlist

GitHub has decided on “main” to replace “master”.

Lots of proposed terms in various communities to replace “slave”: replica, sub, upstream, under, override, etc…depending on context.
