The new edit box (new since a month or so ago, August 2025) doesn’t have any way that I can find to turn it off or modify its behavior, either in the user interface or in the admin settings. I liked the old one better, because my group is a writing group and sometimes we write poetry such as haiku, in which the formatting convention is no blank line between the short lines of text.
Having the edit box assume that when I hit return, I want a blank line – that’s annoying. Here is an illustration of what I mean, presented as a haiku –
–-
each line of haiku
should have no blank line after
it, to be correct
–-
I don’t always want a blank line when I hit return, when I do I can hit two!
Here is the question: How do I turn off either
- the auto blank line
or
- the new WYSIWYG edit box
so I and my friends can have our haiku (and other poetry) come out NOT drowning in extra blank lines?
Edit: And Worse, the WYSIWYG feature took out the extra extra blank lines I added before and after the example haiku, trying to set it off as illustration… so I defeated That annoyance by going back and editing dashes in….. this is the kind of annoyance that WYSIWYG has presented since it first came in, back in the 1990’s when I was a young programmer.
