I may have hit a bug.
I hid an inappropriate comment, which the user then edited. I viewed the edits but took no action, and the edited comment appeared in the thread. I was able to replicate this using a second login. after another test, the edited comment becomes visible again after the edit, before I even see what edits were made.
I don’t think this is how it is supposed to work. There needs to be an approval step before a comment reappears.
Nope, this is intended. If you want the post to not re-appear you need to delete it, if you allow a revision the user will always be able to edit it and have it reinstated.

Granted that I should not have approved the comment in the first place - I should have sent it back for revision from the approval queue, and then I could review edits.
I guess I was expecting this would work the same way. ETA: that re-instatement should not be automatic.

Yep – if you want to have the user instantly revise it and not have it in the timeline at all then use the “request revision” button. The only option once it’s been posted is to revise it publicly.
